Hanna Liljefors, member of the project Scripture and Secularism, has together with Linnea Jensdotter, Reader in Sociology of Religion, written a debate article in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter on the increasing presence of religion in the Swedish political debate. In one of the world’s most secularized societies, the Bible and so-called Christian values are increasingly invoked by politicians.
“The religious actor who wished to be part of and be taken seriously in the public discourse in Sweden, previously had to formulate their religious arguments in secular terms. But something has happened. Different actors are talking about – and now also with – religion and religious leaders in new ways.”
